March 3, 2025 – Oklahoma ranks among the top 10 states in the nation for food insecurity among seniors. Donations to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Senior Match are now doubled throughout March, up to $30,000, thanks to presenting sponsor the Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma.
“It is so important that we support and care for one of Oklahoma’s most vulnerable populations,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “We know that hunger takes a severe toll on seniors’ health and overall well-being, putting them at risk for chronic health conditions. We are so grateful to the Masonic Charity Foundation for making this match possible.”
For every $1 donated to the match, the Regional Food Bank is able to help provide six meals for seniors. Once the match is met, every donation provides three meals.
“Food support donations play a crucial role in the lives of Oklahoma seniors living with hunger,” said John Logan, executive director of the Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma. “By providing seniors access to more nutritious food, health can improve, stress due to food insecurity can be reduced and their overall quality of life enhanced.”
Food for Oklahoma seniors is provided through food pantries, emergency shelters and senior nutrition programs as well as provided through the following Regional Food Bank’s Food for Seniors Programs:
- The Senior Home Delivery Program – Through a partnership with EMBARK, the Oklahoma City metro area transit system, the Regional Food Bank delivers food boxes each month to homebound residents who are 60 years of age or older and identified as being food insecure and unable to get to a food pantry. In addition, the Regional Food Bank uses volunteers to make weekly home deliveries to metro area households who meet the USDA requirements (200% of poverty level) and are unable to visit a food pantry.
- The Senior Pantry Program – Offers an on-site shopper-choice pantry where the residents are able to visit and shop for fresh prepared food from the Senior Servings Program, shelf-stable food and fresh produce.
- The Senior Servings Program – Provides healthy, frozen meals prepared in Hope’s Kitchen to seniors shopping at food pantries who have limitations in physical functioning, cognition and physical mobility.
