Like so many Oklahomans, Darrell lost his job during the pandemic. But during that time, he turned his focus toward homeschooling his son, who was then in preschool. It’s worked so well for the two of them, Darrell now gets by working odd jobs so he can continue to homeschool his son, who is now in second grade.
Darrell and his son live with Darrell’s brother. Together, they work to make ends meet. But that task has been harder and harder to do. As prices for groceries remain high, there’s been little relief for their budget.
“The price of everything’s going up. Fuel. Food,” he says. “I mean, nothing’s cheap. Nothing’s cheap.”
But thanks in part to donors like you, families like Darrell’s can count on the Regional Food Bank Food & Resource Center for nutritious food. Not only can neighbors access food for nutritious meals, but they can also connect with other vital resources that will help them find pathways away from hunger.
“Being able to have food [means] we can eat, so I can focus on other things,” Darrell says. “It takes a lot of pressure off of you, being able to come here.”
Darrell especially appreciates the fresh vegetables and meat he’s able to get at the Food & Resource Center. Knowing he can provide nutritious meals for his family means he has one less worry.
“Thank you,” he says. “To some people, it don’t seem like a lot, but to others it makes a big difference.”
Darrell is grateful for the help you make possible and we are too!
