Oct. 8, 2024 – Shoppers in central and western Oklahoma helped to raise $252,937 for local families living with hunger during the Walmart and Sam’s Club Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign. The campaign, in its 11th year, is a collaboration between the Regional Food Bank, Walmart, Sam’s Club, associates, suppliers and shoppers.

“Year after year we are so grateful for the incredible generosity from Walmart, Sam’s Club and their shoppers. This donation will help the Regional Food Bank to provide more than 758,000 meals to our neighbors living with hunger,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank.

Customers participated by donating at the register, rounding up their purchase and purchasing specially marked in-store products. For every participating product sold, the supplier of the product donated the monetary equivalent of one meal ($0.10) to the Regional Food Bank.

“This donation is especially significant because it comes in addition to the thousands of pounds of surplus food Walmart and Sam’s Club stores donate each month through our Retail Recovery Program,” Dykstra said.

Through the Retail Recovery Program, the Regional Food Bank and its community-based partners pick up surplus food donations from Walmart and Sam’s Club locations.

Each Walmart and Sam’s Club across the country was matched with at least one of 200 local Feeding America® partner food banks.
